Portugal vs Bosnia: preview and predictions (Euro 2012 play-off, 2nd leg, 15 November 2011)

This is the closest of the four second legs remaining to make it to Euro 2012 next summer. Bosnia and Herzegovina held Portugal to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of their Euro 2012 qualifying playoff. PORTUGAL vs BOSNIA : MATCH PREVIEW- Bosnia kept Portugal at bay in the opening fixture in Zenica and earned themselves a 0-0 draw to take back to Lisbon. The way Bosnia played in their final group game against France in Paris should demonstrate they won't be overawed in Lisbon. Furthermore, Vedad Ibisevic had a great chance to snatch victory for Bosnia in the 1st leg.

- Even if Portugal failed to take the lead against Bosnia, they have dominated for 70 minutes and only a terrible pitch prevented them to score. When compared to their previous two games, Portugal were an improved side. The returns of Pepe and Fabio Coentrao gave the side a considerable boost and the introduction of Miguel Veloso in front of the defence provided a sense of safety which Raul Meireles could not give in that position. Overall, the Selecao looked like a solid side again and if they repeat that performance on Tuesday, they should be able to clinch victory.

- Just two years ago, Portugal defeated twice Bosnia and Herzegovina by 1-0 in 2010 FIFA World Cup playoffs but history shows that Safet Susic's side must not be taken lightly on the road. The away goals rule means if Bosnia-Herzegovina strike in Lisbon all the pressure will be right on Portugal as they will have to score at least twice to progress. Paulo Bento's side have already shown that they are susceptible to pressure after they blew the chance to qualify automatically for Euro 2012 with a 2-1 defeat to Denmark in their final Group H game.

- The visitors are now unbeaten in seven games with only one goal conceded in that run. Papac, Pandza and Mujdza who missed the first leg are likely to start for Bosnia but Salihovic received a yellow card and will be out in the next game.

- Considering the problems Portugal coach Paulo Bento has had with his squad - Jose Bosingwa and Ricardo Carvalho have both quit after fall-outs with him - this will not be the cakewalk many are expecting.

- Cristiano Ronaldo has often been accused of failing to transfer his sensational form for Real Madrid onto the international stage, but he and fellow winger Nani remain Portugal's most lethal attacking weapons. Bosnia will look to Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko, the second leading scorer in the Premier League this season, to fire the team's goals in Lisbon.
