GENOA vs INTER MILAN: MATCH PREVIEW- Inter Milan picked up a vital 2-0 win last Saturday at the San Siro to move away from danger at the foot of Serie A and above their opponents Fiorentina.Inter currently sit ninth in Serie A on 17 points, one adrift of Genoa, with both sides having played 13 games. Inter won for just the fifth time this season as it continues to recover from a poor start, and surged from just above the relegation zone into the top half of the standings in ninth. Against Fiorentina Inter looked stronger and motivated. However, they have been unable to register back-to-back victories since matchdays three and four.
- Goals from Marco Rossi and Rodrigo Palacio helped Genoa claim their first away win since September at Siena's Stadio Artemio Franchi. The win eased the pressure on coach Alberto Malesani, whose side had not won on the road since beating Lazio in the capital almost three months ago.
Inter Milan striker Diego Milito is hopeful he will be fit for Tuesday’s Serie A clash. The Argentine picked up an ankle knock in the second half of Inter's 2-0 victory, but is optimistic of being fit to face his former club in midweek. Furthermore, some of the injured players are back and the results have come. Only Sneider and Forlan (he could be on the bench) are still missing, but the returns of Brazilias Maicon (he should be rested) and Lucio are very important. Also, team captain Javier Zanetti will be in the squad after the suspension but Jonathan, Joel Obi, Dejan Stankovic and Wesley Sneijder are still unavailable.
- Genoa will now be without their top goalscorer against on Tuesday: Argentinian forward Rodrigo Palacio will miss his club's next three games with a groin injury. Ze Eduardo, the big summer signing, has come back in contention after a long layoff but he is short on match fitness. Pratto and Caracciolo have disappointed and the club is expected to be back on the market in January. The trio of Valter Birsa, Juraj Kucka, Luca Antonelli have been ruled out while Bovo will face a late fitness test.
- Genoa have not defeated Inter in Serie A action since the 1994-95 season. and since Thiago Motta and Milito joined Inter, Genoa losses its matches against Inter in Genoa. The last three Serie A encounters at the Marassi have all been won by the Nerazzurri, scoring eight in the process and always keeping clean sheets.
- So far, every time that Inter has given positive signs it was shot back down straight away in subsequent games. The Marassi will not be an easy pitch but Genoa are going through darker times and with Palacio ruled out the hosts will very likely not be able to bite.
