Group D Betting Preview
England are joint favourites to win the Euros this summer and, of course, bookies' favorites to top the Group D. The Three Lions demonstrated plenty of promise at the 2018 World Cup as they reached the semi-finals, before losing to Croatia in extra-time in Moscow. They will have the chance to avenge that loss at Wembley in their opening game on 13th June. As to their qualifying campaign, Gareth Southgate's men finished top of a group that also included Czech Republic. Their only loss in qualifiers did come in Prague. England scored a whopping 37 goals in their eight qualifying matches - their nearest rivals in the group only scored 13!
Determining the runner-up is a trickier task as Czech Republic and Croatia can cause major upsets while Scotland will enjoy home advantage in the games against these two nations.
Croatia were only beaten by France in the 2018 World Cup final, after beating England in the semifinals. Their performance in the latest edition of the UEFA Nations League suggested they have receded as Zlatko Dalic's men have lost 5 of their 6 games against Portugal, Sweden and France. Much of the Croatia spine could be past their best so it will not be a surprise seeing them struggling to beat Czech Republic and Scotland. Their opening game against England (at Wembley) will be pivotal since Croatia have failed to beat the Three Lions in the last two direct encounters since the World Cup - an away loss and goalless draw at home in the Nations League.
Scotland beat Israel and Serbia on penalties in the playoffs after finishing third in Group I behind table-toppers Belgium and second-placed Russia in their Euro 2020 qualifying group. This will be their first participation in a major tournament after finishing bottom of their group at the 1998 World Cup in France, when they picked up just one point in three matches. Home advantage against Czech Republic and Croatia, a solid defense and a bit of talent, could see Scotland battling with the Czechs for the third spot.
Czech Republic qualified for the European Championships after finishing second behind the Three Lions in qualification Group A. Jaroslav Silhavy’s side got the better of England during Euros qualifying in October 2019 but lost to Scotland twice last year in the Nations League. They hugely disappointed in France five years ago, failing to win a game as they crashed out at the earliest possible stage and getting out of the group will be their target.

With crowds expected to be back in the stands in time for the summer, the Three Lions will have a huge advantage over their opponents. Croatia do not look as strong as it did three years ago while Czech Republic are able to cause a few shocks in the tournament depsite lacking of offensive talent and top players. Scotland will be in a fight with Croatia and Czech Republic to go through and we predict the Tartan Army not to finish bottom of the group. The odds on Scotland to qualify (expecially the price boost from William Hill) are tasty.
Will Scotland progress to the knockout stage?
Two of Scotland’s group fixtures will be in Glasgow and when you consider they are unbeaten in their last six games at Hampden, you will start thinking they have a chance to escape this group. Thee Scots have also won their last three meetings with Czech Republic, so their chance to qualify - at least as one of the best four third placed teams - are concrete.
Will England win all three group stage matches?
Croatia look the only team that can take points against England in the group stage. Southgate's men suffered an extra-time loss to Modric & co at the 20218 World Cup and will be seeking revenge in their opening match. The Three Lions collected a win and a draw in their Nations League meetings with Croatia – with the 2-1 victory coming at Wembley. Hence, we believe they can claim a victory in their opening game and finishing the group stage with maximum points.
Group D Fixtures & Venues
Group D matches will be played at Wembley Stadium and Hampden Park, giving home advantage to both England and Scotland. The direct encounter between these two nations will be held in London. Anyway, Scotland will hope that playing in Glasgow will give them the edge over Croatia and Czech Republic.
