The final day of the 2018 Cheltenham Festival gets underway with the grade one Triumph Hurdle. It's a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race, run over two miles and one furlong, for horses aged four. Unlike the Supreme Novices Hurdle, this race restricts entry to 4-year-old novice hurdlers, eliminating age difference from the factors that decide the race winner. This makes the race the starting platform for many young horses, and it is certainly a race to watch for the future.

The JCB Triumph Hurdle often attracts a maximum field so tactics are crucial, and prominent runners could be at an advantage by keeping out of the carnage further down the field.

And now we'll take a closer look at this year's JCB Triumph Hurdle and try to determine which horse is likely to prevail.

APPLE'S SHAKIRA made a very nice impression when winning in France.  She was quickly snapped up by JP McManus and has since won three races, all at Cheltenham. She is unbeaten in her 4 starts so far.

FARCLAS is a horse improving with every run and could be another to keep on side. He was second to Mr Adjudicator, who is also in this race, in the Spring Hurdle (Grade One) at Leopardstown last time out on only his second start over hurdles.

WE HAVE A DREAM made his UK debut in November at Warwick, beating Etamine Du Cochet by 10 lengths. He then went to Doncaster and recorded a Grade 2 victory before winning the Finale hurdle at the rearranged Chepstow meeting in January. Last time out he travelled up to Musselburgh and won a Listed contest from Act Of Valour.

REDICEAN made his hurdles debut at Kempton at the Christmas meeting and was quite impressive when winning by ten lengths from Haulani.  The second win was at the same venue and again a 10 length victory was stamped with a classy performance.

MR ADJUDICATOR bolted up on his hurdles debut and kept his unbeaten record in tact over hurdles, beating Espoir D’Allen at Leopardstown. He beat Farclas in a tight finish but the pair pulled well clear of the others.

Willie Mullins' French import STORMY IRELAND created a huge impression on her Irish debut, winning at Fairyhouse by 58 lengths on heavy ground. She would not have so much experience but we expect huge improvements.

SUSSEX RANGER was runner-up to We Have A Dream in the Finale at Chepstow. He was beaten a length and a half on that occasion. Previous wins at both Fontwell and Sandown suggests that he has no issues with an uphill finish.

SALDIER is a French recruit who made a bright start to hurdling career when easily landing a Gowran (impressively, by 10 lengths from Big Ego) in February. Obvioulsy he is a bit of an unknown quantity but was running in Group races on the level in France.

GUMBALL has won juveniles at Stratford and Chepstow (by eight lengths from Malaya), both in October, on first 2 starts for Philip Hobbs. However, he could not lay a glove on Apple's Shakira here in November and may need a stiffer test.

SAYO finished runner-up on hurdles debut in France and duly went one better starting out for new yard at Naas (by three quarters of a length from Les Arceaux). He is entitled to progress further but the rivals look much stronger.
