The Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle is a grade 3 handicap hurdle raced on the Old Course at Cheltenham, a race open to 5 year old and older hurdlers and run over 2 miles and 5 furlongs. Favourites do not have a good record in this race as only one favourite has prevailed in 16 years. Last year the race was won by the Jessica Harrington-trained Supasundae at odds of 16/1. Check out here our Cheltenham 2018 Coral Cup race preview, with odds, tips, predictions, trends, free bets and betting promotions.

Sandwiched between the more prestigious RSA Chase and the feature race of the second day of the Cheltenham Festival, the Queen Mother Champion Chase, the Coral Cup is one of the toughest races to solve at the Cheltenham Festival. It's a Grade 3 handicap hurdle covering two miles and five furlongs, for horses aged four years and upwards. Many horses come into the race looking well handicapped and those horses all seem to have obvious chances of winning.

Online bookmakers are paying out a quarter of the odds for a top four finish for each way bets, so with all the runners having double digit prices, we’d recommend going each way with your Coral Cup bets.

And now we'll take a closer look at the Coral Cup 2018 and try to determine which horse is likely to prevail.

WILLIAM HENRY pulled up on his first run of the season back in November over fences but reverted back to the smaller obstacles and won the Lanzarote at Kempton. Despite being an eight-year-old, Nicky Henderson’s charge has had just the nine starts under rules.

MAX DYNAMITE arrives with plenty of question marks, as he’s not run since Hong Kong in December. A third in the Melbourne Cup and a 6th in the Hong Kong Vase must seem a long way from the Cheltenham Hill.

LE BREUIL has won twice in five attempts over the obstacles and was last seen finishing second in a very competitive race. He is still unexposed as a hurdler and his novice form suggests he can do even better yet in handicaps.

BURBANK was 4th in the Neptune Novices Hurdle behind Willoughby Court last year. This season he has tried chasing without much success and then last time out bounced back to form with a decent 3rd behind Jenkins at Ascot.

Paul Nicholls’ TOPOFTHEGAME could have further progress to come over hurdles. He was a point-winner for Donnchadh Doyle previously, beating the smart No Hassle Hoff, made a pleasing hurdling debut to account for Criq Rock at Ascot and made is return at Newbury back in November over fences where he fell behind Strong Pursuit. He he returned to hurdling to finish a close 4th to William Henry in the Lanzarote Hurdle and beat Golan Fortune in a Sandown Grade Three contest when last seen.

The Winner of the race in 2016 DIAMOND KING was returning from 7 months off when respectable third in Punchestown minor event in December. He has not been seen since then.

Having been off for almost two years, willie Mullins' VOIX DU REVE returned to action over the new year break and had his next run in the handicap hurdle won by Total Recall at Leopardstown.

RED INDIAN has made the frame all 4 starts in handicap company this season, latest when runner-up at Towcester last month while FIXE LE KAP, for Nicky Henderson, got beat at Plumpton and had a wind operation and a run at Ascot since then. He was eighth in the Fred Winter two years ago and is expected to improve here.

ABBYSSIAL showed some ability on his return from very long absence, when fourth in Red Mills Trial Hurdle last month while MOUNT MEWS has not totally convinced over fences this term but boasts some strong form over the smaller obstacles. He can't be ruled out.

SPRINGTOWN LAKE has finished second to On The Blind Side in a Grade Two and performed well enough in a Listed race here at Cheltenham to suggest he has potential.

AS YOU WERE can't be ruled out, as well as other interesting horses such as BARRA, BLEU BERRY, RIVER FROST, THE ORGANIST and ROYAL VACATION.
