CHELSEA v SOUTHAMPTON BETTING PREVIEWChelsea bounced back from being outplayed by Man UTD in a 2-0 Old Trafford loss to get the better of Tottenham in the FA Cup semifinal at Wembley over the weekend, prevailing 4-2 in a very entertaining match. That loss at the hands of Mourinho's men, plus a defeat to Crystal Palace at the start of the month has allowed Tottenham to close the gap to just four points. Anyway, the Blues have won 11 of their last 12 home matches in the top-flight and ran out 2-0 winners when they visited Southampton earlier this season.
Thibaut Courtois and Marcos Alonso should be available for this clash while Gary Cahill is a major doubt. Nathan Ake is ready to keep his place in the team, while John Terry and Kurt Zouma are alternatives. Cesc Fabregas may get the nod to start next to N’Golo Kante in central midfield while Pedro, Diego Costa and Eden Hazard expected to keep their places in the front three. Willian appears to have suffered an injury against Spurs and is likely to miss the match.
Southampton enter this match on the back of a 3-0 home defeat to Manchester City last time out but they can be relatively pleased with how their campaign has gone. The Saints currenlty sit 9th in the Premier League standings and have reaced the League Cup final. Claude Puel's men have won three of their last four away games in the Premier League, scoring 10 goals in the process. Anyway, Southampton have only picked up one point from five away games against teams in the top seven. In terms of direct encounters, the Saints have won only one of their last seven games against Chelsea.
Oriol Romeu will be available to face his former club Chelsea after completing his two-match ban. Matt Targett and Charlie Austin are posed to re-join the main group in training but neither will feature just yet. Claude Puel is likely to stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation, allowing James Ward-Prowse, Dusan Tadic and Nathan Redmond to form the attacking midfield trio behind lone striker Manolo Gabbiadini. Ryan Bertrand, Maya Yoshida, Jack Stephens and Cedric Soares are expected to start in defence while Virgil Van Dijk remain sidelined.
