BORUSSIA DORTMUND v BENFICA BETTING PREVIEW
Borussia Dortmund must overturn a one-goal deficit if they are to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League as they were undone by a second-half goal from Kostas Mitroglou in the first leg of this last-16 tie. Since then BVB have turned on the style in the Bundesliga, winning all 3 of their fixture and scoring 12 goals in the process. The most recent game saw them hammering 6-2 Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. As a result, they sit 3rd in the Bundesliga table behind Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig.
Thomas Tuchel is likely to opt for a 3-4-2-1 starting system. Marc Bartra, Sokratis and Matthias Ginter will form the three man backline while Lukasz Piszczek and Raphael Guerreiro will play as wing backs. Up front, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be supported by Ousmane Dembele and Christian Pulisic. Midfield four Mario Gotze, Marco Reus, Sebastian Rode, and Sven Bender are all injured.
Benfica have been in good form domestically with nine wins, one draw and one defeat up to the end of February ensuring they kept their noses ahead of Porto at the top of the Super Liga table. Their 1-0 win over Feirense on Saturday made it seven victories in a row in all competitions. The Eagles have won 14 of their 21 trips away, drawing three and losing four. In Champions League, they collected a W1 D1 L1 record on their travels. They won 2-0 at Dynamo Kiev, drew 3-3 with Besiktas and even when they lost at Napoli’s ground they scored a couple of goals (4:2).
Rui Vitoria is expected to play with a 4-2-3-1 formation in which Kostas Mitroglou will retain his central striker berth. The likes of Andrija Zivkovic, Andre Carrillo and Rafa are expected to start as offensive midfielders with Andreas Samaris and Pizzi in the middle of the park. Ljubomir Fejas remains a doubt because of an ankle injury while Alex Girmaldo and Filipe Augusto are still expected to miss out through injury. Centre back Lisandro Lopez is not 100% fit and Marcelo Hermes is ineligible for the Champions League.
