Australian Open 2012 (Men's Tournament) betting preview and predictions

The first Grand Slam of the year is just around the corner, with all tennis fans eagerly awaiting for the start of 2012 Australian Open. Defending champion Novak Djokovic, as well as Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are the usual suspects, but last year’s runner up Andy Murray is also in the mix. FAVORITESNOVAK DJOKOVIC @ 2.85
It was in Melbourne last year that Novak Djokovic began his stunning run that saw him win 70 of his 76 matches in 2011, capturing three Grand Slam crowns along the way. All he did in 2011 was have an all-time great year. He burnt out a little at the end, but the way he destroyed Federer in an exhibition at the beginning of this year tells us that he is back, focused, and ready to win even more Slams.

RAFAEL NADAL @ 7.50
He's the joint second favourite to regain the title he last won in 2009 although the former world number one hasn’t had a great run at this event in recent years. Seventh seed David Ferrer beat his compatriot in straight sets last year while Nadal retired when two sets down against Andy Murray back in 2010. Nadal tapered off a bit in the second half of the year, withdrawing from some tournaments and underperforming in others. Still, he has rested up and looks to be getting into form as we head into Melbourne.

ROGER FEDERER @ 6.25
The former world number one hasn’t won a Grand Slam since the Australian Open in 2009 and had to retire before the semi-final of the Qatar Open last week due to lower back pain. His match against Abu Dhabi against Djokovic was not encouraging, but Federer has always played his best in Slams and showed last year that only he, moreso than even Nadal, can really compete with and beat a top-form Djokovic.

NEXT IN LINEANDY MURRAY @ 7.00
With new coach Ivan Lendl on board, Murray’s season got off to the perfect start with victory in the Brisbane International event and the Scot has reached the last two Australian Open finals. He just hasn’t shown us the ability to beat players like Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic in Slams when crunch time rolls around.

JO-WILFRIED TSONGA 23.00
He's a good bet after his Qatar Open win and has had no such fitness worries as the Frenchman reached the final of three of his final four tournaments of 2011 and the 2009 Australian Open finalist is threatening to pick up a first Grand Slam win in the near future.

He could play with the top players for a set or two maybe, but has never really been able to beat the top players in five sets. However, his match against Nadal in Doha was very encouraging

He's showing a much better baseline game (his net game has always been much better than people ever gave him credit for) and his usually-poor return of serve began being not terrible. He also showed more consistency as the year went on.
