Kevin Anderson reached the final with a 7-6 (6), 6-7 (5), 6-7 (9), 6-4, 26-24 victory over John Isner on Friday - a semifinal match that took a record 6 hours, 36 minutes to play. Of course, the fatigue factor is going to be massive. Anderson has an extra day’s rest but he played play 99 games over six hours on Friday. It’s a career milestone for Anderson, who last reached this stage at last year’s US Open. The South African met Rafael Nadal in last year’s final in New York, and was swept on the hard court 3–6, 3–6, 4–6.

The South African will be wary of a fairly poor record in six direct matches against Djokovic, having only beaten him once – way back in 2008 in Miami. The pair actually most recently met at Wimbledon, when Djokovic rallied from two sets down to beat Anderson in five sets i the 2015 round of 16.

Novak Djokovic beat world No. 1 Rafael Nadal in a five-set semifinal match that took an extra day to complete with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (9), 3-6, 10-8 scoreline. Djokovic started Saturday with a 2-1 set lead, but Nadal struck back to take the fourth before the Serb won a marathon deciding set. It was the second longest semifinal in Wimbledon history, trailing only Kevin Anderson’s victory over John Isner on Friday.

A remarkable result for Djokovic who failed to reach the last four at a slam since losing the final of the 2016 US Open, with his latest shock defeat coming to Marco Cecchinato at Roland Garros. He has battled injuries the last couple years, to his elbow and shoulder. As a result, the 31-year-old, ranked No. 21 in the world.
